A Quick SUPER simple tutorial. Elastic Ribbon Ties.

This is an extremely simple and fun crafting tutorial that solves multiple ponytail-holding related issues. This project would be great for kids from age 8-12, but really it’s practical for all ages. I have really long,kinky-curly, thick hair and I’m constantly losing my headband elastics. This is a simple solution that will save a little money as well. All you need is two items!

What you’ll need:

  • Scissors
  • Elastic Cord

All you need are a pair of scissors, any craft scissors will do. Nail clippers work as well. You will also need flat elastic ribbon cord, because it is less likely to get tangled in your hair. It’s also easier to work with. Anywho, let’s get to it.

Step one: Measure and cut your cord.

Cut elastic ribbon to desired length.

What’s great about making your own ponytail holders is that you can cut this elastic ribbon to make then any size you want!

TA-DA!!

Simple enough, right? This is a super simple, under $5 project. Great for getting little girls into the idea of getting their hair combed. I usually just keep the elastic ribbon in the bathroom just in case I’m in a rush.

Step two: Tie a knot and pull

The last step is super easy just tie a knot about an inch or so from the cut ends and pull tight enough until you feel like it won’t come undone. And that’s it! You’ve just made your first ribbon tie! Make as many as you need.
